The campaign, titled It's ON! in the Gong will promote 18 sporting and cultural events that Wollongong will host between December and March.
Destination Wollongong marketing manager Joanne Tralaggan said the events had the potential to yield more than $20 million in economic value for the region's community.
Events that will be promoted in the $100,000 campaign include this Wednesday's Twenty20 cricket match featuring the Sydney Thunder, the NSW Cycling Grand Prix next Sunday, the ahm Wave Warriors junior surf lifesaving events to be held at North Wollongong from December 15-16, the Australia Day Aquathon on January 26, and the Illawarra Folk Festival at Bulli Showground from January 17-20.
The campaign is linked with the Destination NSW It's ON! campaign.
It includes radio, print and online promotions.
The Destination Wollongong campaign features an It's ON! branded bus that will cruise the streets of Wollongong to promote the summer events.
General manager of Destination Wollongong Mark Sleigh said because of the city's links and proximity to Canberra and Sydney, the two areas were very important to the region's tourism.
