Around Australia people will be photographing king tides and contributing their pictures to a project, designed to show the effect of sea-level rises.
The Witness King Tides project is being run by environmental group Green Cross Australia, which runs campaigns to raise awareness of climate change. Green Cross International was founded by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1993 after the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro.
Green Cross wants people to share their photos and by doing so, draw attention to sea-level rises. King tides occur annually and are not a symptom of climate change but Green Cross believes the images will give an insight into the potential effect of rising seas.
The king tide is due in Wollongong at 9.30am on Friday.
The king tides project has funding from state and federal governments, as well as Wollongong and Shoalhaven city councils. See www.witnesskingtides.org for information or to upload pictures.
