Roads Minister Duncan Gay has warned motorists travelling south to expect delays on the Princes Highway at Albion Park Rail, Berry, Nowra, Milton, Ulladulla and Batemans Bay.
‘‘Motorists are also urged to plan before they travel,’’ Mr Gay said.
‘‘Anyone heading off on a long trip should drive to the conditions, prepare for lengthy delays by taking plenty of water and allow additional travel time.’’
The highway has been closed twice for extended periods due to accidents in the past week, including a double fatality last Saturday involving a ute and a petrol tanker on the highway south of Berry.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward said work on the Princes Highway upgrade in Gerringong was suspended yesterday and would resume on Monday, January 7.
Meantime, Shellharbour MP Anna Watson has again hit at the NSW government over the Albion Park Rail highway bypass study.
Ms Watson said that six months after the study was announced, Mr Gay could not tell her when the study would be completed, when it would be released, or what the cost of the bypass would be.
‘‘The NSW government hasn’t even consulted Shellharbour City Council about its $100,000 study, or the existing gazetted route, let alone any other possible route options for the bypass,’’ Ms Watson said.
Mr Ward said Labor had neglected the section of the highway during its term in power.
‘‘The $100,000 I had allocated within 16 months of being in office is more than Labor did in 16 years of office.’’
