The 21-year-old died died in hospital after she fell 25 metres from from a 10th floor balcony at the Rydges Hotel onto a tiled terrace on the second floor at 11:30pm yesterday.
Police today said it was too early to tell if her death was a tragic accident or if she had met with foul play.
Miranda police superintendent Greg Antonjuk told a press conference this morning: "There are some circumstances that may indicate there was a disagreement between them. But nothing stronger than that at this point in time."
They said the couple had earlier that night been drinking and had gotten into an argument, that was heard by other hotel guests. Her 27-year-old boyfriend has been interviewed by police.
‘‘Alcohol is a line of investigation we are following,’’ said Miranda police superintendent Greg Antonjuk.
He said the couple were holidaying at Cronulla and were believed to have been at a restaurant before returning to the Kingsway hotel.
It is understood the couple made a last-minute decision to spend an extra night at the hotel.
The woman was taken to St George Hospital with critical injuries and underwent emergency surgery, but died early this morning.
