Kiama Show Society president David Young said the committee was very pleased with how Kiama’s 165th show unfolded.
‘‘We’re very happy with the weekend,’’ he said.
‘‘The weather was great, the storm didn’t hit Kiama until about 1.30am on Sunday morning.
‘‘Friday’s gate was the same as last year. Saturday’s gate was down 5per cent but that was expected and we were happy with that, considering the competition we had this year from Australia Day events across the Illawarra.’’
University of Wollongong student Kathryn Cullen, 20, from Gerringong won the 50th Kiama Showgirl Competition, and she will compete at the zone final on February 9 in Castle Hill.
Mr Young said the new drawcards this year were Circus Monoxide and the camel racing.
‘‘I even had to go in a camel race myself ...there was a spare spot and you couldn’t have a riderless camel,’’ he laughed.
‘‘We are all very proud of our hard-working committee, the show has been going 165 years now and a lot of people behind the scenes continue putting it all together so our very proud tradition can continue.’’
The show season continues on Friday and Saturday with the Berry Show, followed by the Nowra Show on February 8/9, the Kangaroo Valley Show on February 15/16, and the Milton and Robertson shows on March 1/2.
