The new $14 million stage two facility delivers an additional 66 residential care places to the Illawarra, bringing the total at the site to 81.
Hillside Brae Board member Richard Clifford said it was important that the built environment complemented the important sense of community that was being created at Hillside.
‘‘The design of the building incorporates the historical aspects of the property including the extensive heritage gardens and a view that expands across Mount St Thomas to the industrial heartland of Port Kembla that is so much a part of Hillside’s history.
Hillside at Figtree was once known for its elegance as a residence for BHP executives.
During his visit to the Illawarra today Mr Butler will also meet with representatives of the Multicultural Communities Council of the Illawarra.
The meeting has been organised with the support of MP Sharon Bird to showcase multicultural health and ageing programs and activities delivered in regional areas.
