The man was pulled from waters 50m offshore at 9.05am.
Onlookers had earlier thrown the man an angel ring.
A rescue helicopter is at the scene but is not required.
The Mercury understands the man was fishing when he was washed off rocks.
He suffered scratches and cramps but is otherwise in good health.
