Garbage truck crash closes Parramatta Rd

Commuters in Sydney's west are facing long delays on Friday morning after two garbage trucks collided at Auburn, leaving one driver trapped.

The crash, which happened about 5am, has blocked the westbound lanes of Parramatta Road entirely between Rawson Street and James Ruse Drive. Motorists travelling to Parramatta and Rydalmere are advised to use Silverwater Road and the M4 or Victoria Road, and extensive delays can be expected.

One eastbound lane is open, however traffic is disrupted and being diverted at James Ruse Drive. Drivers travelling east can use the M4 or Victoria Road and Silverwater Road to return to Parramatta Road.

Emergency services are still working to free the driver of one of the garbage trucks, who remains trapped in the wreckage.
