It was the sort of goal players dream about scoring – laces through the ball, 25 yards out, rocketing into the top corner to seal a grand final win.
Port Kembla midfielder David Polidoro fulfilled all footballers’ lifelong dream on Sunday in the league decider at WIN Stadium.
After he was fed the ball by Karouna Micheal, Polidoro hammered home Port’s third, and by far most spectacular, goal.
‘‘I wasn’t expecting it. I thought he was going to pass it back but when it came I just lined it up and luckily it went in,’’ he said.
‘‘It is a once in a lifetime thing. How many times do you get in a grand final and how many times do you score a goal? It is a good feeling.
‘‘When we look back at it, it was a great season,’’ Polidoro said.
‘‘Sixteen games in a row and a minor premiership ... it has been one heck of a season.’’
The man-of-the-match crown went to teammate Mitchell Scazzariello.
‘‘It is a great honour to be named man of the match,’’ he said.
‘‘I was pretty nervous this morning but once we started kicking the ball around the nerves disappeared.
‘‘It’s always good scoring a goal. In the grand final it just tops the year for the team.’’
