Commissioner Ken Lay rode his bike in a charity event in rural Victoria at the weekend. While he was stopped to help a friend change a tyre, a ute driver hurled abuse at him.
"Obviously, one of the locals down there didn't have a great affection for cyclists and made some comments as he went past," Mr Lay told Fairfax Radio yesterday.
"He did get a visit from my people a couple of hours later," he said. "We had a conversation about sharing the road and behaving appropriately."
