Warrawong trampoline park damaged by fire

A fire has forced the temporary closure of a Warrawong trampoline park just one week after its grand opening.

Located in Shellharbour Road, the Flip Out Trampoline Arena opened its doors on the Australia day weekend.

At 11.25pm on Friday night, just seven days later, eight fire trucks were called to put out a fire at the business.

Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Don Pescud said there was no structural damage caused by fire however there was considerable smoke damage throughout the building.

Inspector Pescud said Fire and Rescue NSW and police are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Lake Illawarra police said it appears the fire was accidental starting from a welder who was at the location welding a steel structure.

Police said it appears that sparks from the welder ignited foam in a nearby foam pit.

Minimal fire damage was sustained but there was substantial smoke damage and several industrial units adjacent to the trampoline park were also smoke damaged.

Police said the exact cost of the damage was unknown but was expected to be several hundred thousands dollars.

A message on the Flip Out Warrawong Facebook page said the site was closed ‘‘due to unforeseen circumstances’’.

It also said the site was expected to be closed for the next 4-6 weeks.
