Warilla qualified to represent Illawarra in the NSW women's bowls Open Fours state titles, while the Senior Fours lost a last-bowl thriller in the play-offs.
The Warilla Open Fours team, skipped by Norma Taylor, beat Southern Tablelands District champion Goulburn Railway 19-13 in their regional play-off at Bowral.
Illawarra Senior Fours champions Warilla, skipped by Julea Morgan, were beaten by Judith Cook's Goulburn Railway team 16-14, with just a shot or two separating the teams right through the play-off decider.
Morgan led 8-5 but the Warilla team dropped a four in the 14th end which turned the match.
Taylor and her team were more fortunate and advanced to the state finals at Tuncurry BC on October 25.
Warilla showed their depth and strength by taking out both the Open and Senior Fours Illawarra at Kiama BC.
In the Open Fours, skip Taylor and partners proved too strong for Corrimal's Lorraine Beattie, Helen Service, Pat Buhagiar and Pat Purdie (skip) in the final.
Warilla then made it a double with skip Morgan and partners Emelia West, Shirley Lindsay and Leone Barnett taking out the Senior Fours crown by beating Windang's Julie Bridges, Margaret Fisher, Moira Dorans and skip Bessie Alaban in the final.
A good crowd was on hand for both finals, with some excellent play from some of the top women bowlers in the Illawarra.
