Man, 20, assaulted with axe

Police are appealing for public assistance after a man was assaulted with an axe at Nowra.

About 12.15am on Saturday, a 20-year-old man was walking in a supermarket car park in Morton Parade, when he was approached by four males, who asked for a cigarette.

The man refused and they all became involved in a verbal argument, police said.

The 20-year-old man ran away and the men followed him and assaulted him.

He ran away again and managed to hide in a nearby unit.

Police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command attended and saw the man had a large cut on his buttocks.

He believed he had been assaulted with a small axe.

The man was taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital for treatment.

There is no description of the males available at this time.
