Police officer punched at Jervis Bay fatal crash

UPDATED 9AM: A Sanctuary Point man, 33, died at a crash near Jervis Bay on Saturday.

The incident happened at Worrowing Heights shortly before 10.30am on The Wool Road, near Naval College Road.

When police and ambulance crews arrived, they found a silver sedan and table-top truck had collided head-on.

A man was found dead inside the sedan.

The driver of the truck, a 35-year-old man, was not injured in the collision but was taken Shoalhaven Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

A number of people, believed to be relatives of one of the men, arrived at the scene. One  is alleged to have punched a female police officer in the face.

The man was subdued with capsicum spray while the injured officer was taken  by ambulance to Shoalhaven Hospital for treatment for facial injuries.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
