The northern suburbs property market continues to attract affluent buyers who are willing to pay close to $1 million, and in many cases more, for homes close to the beach.
Real estate agent Vanessa Denison-Pender, who specialises in the market from Stanwell Park to Woonona, said the house market was going gangbusters.
"What I'm noticing at the moment is people looking in that range of $800,000 up to $1 million are finding that are not getting as much [value] as they used to," she said.
"Buyers are now moving up to that next bracket of $1 million to $1.2 million.
"There seems to be a lot more activity in that range presently."
Ms Denison-Pender, of One Agency Denison-Pender Property, said the northern suburbs were attracting buyers locally and those outside the region.
"We get a lot of interest from Illawarra people looking to upgrade their lifestyle," she said.
"In fact, it's people from all over who are interested in living closer to the coastline."
Ms Denison-Pender has a three-bedroom home at 7 Allen Street, Austinmer, on the market. It will go to auction on April 12.
"I've been overwhelmed with inquiries on that property, including from overseas, but a lot of the interest has been from local people who are interested in upgrading their location," she said.
One of Ms Denison-Pender's latest listings is a four-bedroom home at 21 Mason Street, Thirroul, for which she is taking offers above $980,000.
Ms Denison-Pender said one of the property's strongest selling points was its sought-after village location, with access to close-by amenities such as shops, schools and transport.
The property's features include four generous-sized bedrooms, heritage-style bathroom with claw-foot bathtub, floor-to-ceiling windows which overlook an in-ground pool, high pressed-metal ornate ceilings, and a drive-through tandem garage with access to the rear garden for trailer or campervan storage.
The master bedroom features a gas fireplace and French doors leading out to a deck.
The home also has a large open plan living and dining area that flows directly to the outdoor undercover entertaining deck.
