‘‘Bridget Jarvis said staff would be out, inter alia, on Saturday nights to measure CBD’s nightlife.’’
My son and his girlfriend (both mid-20s) visited the Gong on Saturday March1 and went to the movies.
As they left the theatre via Burelli Street about 9.30pm, in the space of three minutes they witnessed an apparent drug deal, a five-on-one bashing of a youth and two intoxicated females in their 30s screaming obscenities and clawing at each other.
To quote my son: ‘‘Dad we feel safer in George Street Sydney, Haymarket and Kings Cross, even at 3am than we did in Wollongong and they are certainly more civilised. We will never spend a Saturday evening in Wollongong again.’’
My question is what is council’s Bridget Jarvis and her staff going to do about it?
Will they too abandon Wollongong on a Saturday night? Who is funding yet another report with our money to be filed in the bottom drawer?
