Garvey appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray over an incident at the Hotel Illawarra on February 27.
As a result of the alleged altercation, a 26-year-old was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of eye and cheek injuries, a police said at the time.
On Tuesday solicitor Peter Mitchell entered not guilty pleas to the two charges and asked that brief orders be made.
The matter will return to court on May 13, to set a hearing date.
Garvey will be excused from appearing in court on that occasion.
