Warrawong man set autistic teen's pants on fire: police

A 21-year-old Warrawong man has been charged after allegedly pouring petrol on a 17-year-old autistic boy’s pants and setting them on fire.

The incident happened at a home in Mount St Thomas on August 16, however the accused only handed himself into police on Thursday.

Police allege the 21-year-old, the victim and another man had been drinking prior to the 17-year-old falling asleep.

Police said the accused then poured a small amount of petrol on the victim’s tracksuit pants and ignited the accelerant with a lighter, engulfing the pants in flames.

The accused was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
