Police allege the man was drunk and drug-affected at the time.

Police said the man was arguing with a woman in Dapto Square Lane about 3pm when he "became hostile" and kicked two parked cars, causing damage. He then allegedly followed a man and woman, and punched the man in the head without provocation.

"The victim's partner has stepped between the two males and at this point the accused male has punched the female in the face."

The man was charged with assault and two counts of malicious damage.
