Through a series of $1000-$3000 endowments, the council distributed $11,000 through four cultural grants and two youth scholarships.
Among the projects chosen for funding were a joint venture between Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the SCARF refugee group in Wollongong for cultural awareness through dance and song; a series of podcasts based on local artists and musicians; and guest tutors for the Kiama Young Musicians Ensemble.
Local funk band Kingdog & The Catz were granted $3000 to finance a video for their song Romance. It will be filmed at some of Kiama's most scenic spots as a way to show off their town, said band leader Ian King.
"It's a Kiama cultural grant, so we thought we could give a bit back to the community through promoting the town through the film clip," King said.
The song, from their newly released EP, will be filmed at the Kiama blowhole, Saddleback Mountain and the Boneyard surfing spot, and will be launched with a performance at the Gerringong Town Hall.
"We wanted to use some of the nice areas and landscapes in town, and show off Kiama to some people," Mr King said.
Kiama council provides creative grants twice a year. The next round of funding applications closes in August.
Kingdog & The Catz play Jamberoo Pub on May 10.
