Graham Arnold looks set to fill the vacant Sydney FC coaching role after the Newcastle Jets pulled out of the race for the mentor.
The Jets appeared the frontrunners to pen a deal with the former Central Coast coach after several meetings with him.
On Thursday they said they were unable to agree terms with Arnold, leaving the Sky Blues as his likely new club.
"The Newcastle Jets have withdrawn from discussions with Graham Arnold regarding the club's vacant head coach position," a Jets statement read,
"The club will continue the head coach selection process and look forward to making an announcement shortly."
Sydney FC are well advanced in their recruiting to replace Frank Farina, who was shown the door last week after the Sky Blues' elimination-final loss to Melbourne Victory.
Sacked Socceroos coach Holger Osieck was believed to be shortlisted. AAP
