The health insurer said the job losses were a result of a review to "streamline processes and ensure cost effectiveness".
"As a result, we have identified a reduced demand for specific areas of the Health Support function, which has led to a reduction of eight roles in Wollongong," a spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said Medibank was trying to redeploy workers who had lost their jobs.
"Staff have been provided with four weeks' notice and, should there be no redeployment opportunities, they will be leaving the company between May 1 and May 30."
