Police said the woman and her daughter, 58, were walking on Northcliffe Drive near a shopping centre at 10.50am on Sunday.
As they were walking across the pedestrian crossing a young boy tried to grab the older woman’s handbag but she held onto it and was pulled to the ground.
She was taken to hospital with injuries to her shoulder, ribs and forehead.
The boy ran away empty handed.
Police are appealing for witnesses or information on the boy who is described as between 10 and 12-years-old, with short brown hair, wearing black tracksuit pants and a black t-shirt.
