Unanderra man allegedly attacks police with shovel

Two police officers were injured when a Unanderra man allegedly attacked them with a shovel on Thursday morning.

Lake Illawarra Police attended a Rickard Road home at about 10am to serve a man with an AVO.

The man then became aggressive, and he attacked the officers with the garden tool.

Lake Illawarra Police Inspector Andrew Koutsoufis said a violent confrontation took place when police attempted to arrest him, with one officer sustaining severe bruising to his hand and the other a cut to his arm.

Both were treated at Wollongong Hospital.
