The Corrimal Chamber of Commerce and Neighbourhood Forum 4 will co-host a forum on Friday to collate new ideas for the Corrimal Town Centre Revitalisation Strategy, first developed in 2009, to take to Wollongong City Council.

Chamber president Paul Boultwood said more needed to be done to take advantage of what the suburb had to offer, including expanding the annual Spring into Corrimal festival, as well as addressing some of the lingering problems.

Mr Boultwood said he had received feedback on the need for CCTV cameras to deter antisocial behaviour and vandalism throughout Corrimal. Vandals recently targeted Luke's Place, a playground for disabled children in Memorial Park.

Karen Lepard, vice-president of the chamber and owner of Cossies R Us, said making people feel safe and introducing more restaurants and after-dark entertainment would encourage families to spend more time in the area.

Residents and businesses have already contributed ideas such as a shopping complex that complemented existing stores, a plan to make use of the suburb's waterways and quirky entertainment such as a variety of buskers performing in front of shops on Friday nights.

Valerie Hussain, convener of Neighbourhood Forum 4, said they wanted many suggestions.

"Although there are differing opinions, we want everyone to get on the same page and give a little so we can come up with a plan that everyone's happy with."

Council has agreed to provide $30,000 for a consultant, but Mrs Hussain said they would prefer the money was used to ask residents what they wanted.

The meeting is on at Corrimal Leagues Club on Railway Street at 7pm on Friday.
