Kiama Leisure Centre fees to rise

Kiama councillors will meet to endorse the council's $61 million 2014-15 budget on Tuesday night, with users of the Kiama Leisure Centre set for a slight reprieve.

In the council's draft fees and charges, which were on public exhibition until May 23, it was proposed to increase leisure centre memberships by 5 per cent. Council staff now recommend an increase of 3 per cent "to reflect the cost of increased wages within the leisure centre and to remain attractive to local residents and visitors".

Meantime, a proposal for a car park and toilet facility at Loves Bay at the northern end of the Kiama Coastal Walk has drawn a 42-signature petition opposing the move. Residents argue the project would "destroy a pristine area of natural beauty".
