Boy sexually assaulted by man in Berkeley

Police are seeking information after a nine-year-old boy was approached and indecently assaulted in Berkeley.

On June 11, about 4.50pm, five boys aged between nine and 12 years old were on the Tuggerah Bay foreshore when an unknown man approached two of the boys.

The pair rode a short distance with the man before returning to their friends.

The man indecently assaulted a nine-year-old boy and then committed an act of indecency.

The group left the area and told their parents, who informed Lake Illawarra police.

Police would like to speak to man described as of Caucasian appearance, aged about 40 years old, about 170cm tall, with dark balding hair, stubble on his face and a fair and freckled complexion.

He was wearing a red jumper, long cream shorts, white shoes and black and gold sunglasses. He also rode a red mountain bike with black stripes and was wearing a red and white helment.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police are also urging parents to discuss the Safe People, Safe Places message with their children, including knowing where safe places are, never talking to someone they don’t know and ensuring a parent or adult knows where they are at all times.
