Miley Cyrus, the former child star who so horrified parents by stripping away all memory of her teen alter-ego Hannah Montana last year, has announced an Australian concert tour.
She begins the Australian leg of her Bangerz world tour in Melbourne on October 10, before playing in Brisbane (October 15), Sydney (October 17), Adelaide (October 20) and Perth (October 23). The tour dates appear to allow for extra dates to be added in the likely event of shows selling out. Tickets, which will cost between $100 and $150 go on sale on Friday, June 20, and general sales begin on Monday, June 23.
Since Miley, as she is known, twerked and generally ingratiatedherself with Robin Thicke at the MTV video music awards last August, she has become one of the most visible and controversial pop stars in the world.
Her new bratty and explicit public image keeps her regularly in the headlines and she commands media attention with a constant flow of outrageous quotes and provocative performances both live and in video clips to her songs, none more so than her Wrecking Ball video, in which she infamously appeared naked and for some reason licked a hammer. Miley is also hugely popular on Twitter with over 18 million followers, but hasn't yet had anything to say about touring Australia there yet.
Miley did offer a candid explanation of why she was "so excited" to tour Australia to The Today Show on Monday: "Because my records have done so well there."
Her fourth studio album (but her first as naughty Miley as opposed to wholesome Miley) was called Bangerz and it topped the charts around the world, including here, despite receiving mixed reviews. According to celebritynetworth.com, Cyrus is worth $US150 million although she is only 21 years old.
Fans can expect a party atmosphere at her shows, with several well-known cover versions usually thrown in alongside her hits, including Dolly Parton's classic Joelene, Outkast's Hey Ya! and Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness. She has even played the Arctic Monkeys' Why Do You Only Call Me When You Are High? according to website setlist.fm, which tracks what many musicians play live.
One song she seems to be well and truly over however is the 2007 hit See You Again. She has to play it in 2014.

Now, as his wife Calista Flockhart arrives in the UK to be by her husband’s side as he recovers, his chef son Ben tells US news show Access Hollywood that the 71 year old could be sidelined for weeks.
According to show insiders, Ben Ford told Access that the Star Wars sequel crew may have to shoot the remainder of his dad’s scenes from the waist up in order to stay on schedule.
Star Wars bosses insist filming on Episode VII will not be affected by Ford’s injury.

Iggy Azalea strikes trouble at JLo gig
Rap newcomer Iggy Azalea’s surprise set with Jennifer Lopez fell flat in Chicago on Saturday after her microphone failed to work.
Lopez headlined the B96 Pepsi Summer Bash and thrilled fans when she brought out the Australian performer.
However, as Azalea was about to break into her rap on Lopez’s track Acting Like That, technical difficulties shut off her mic.
The sound team at the event eventually fixed the problem but Azalea was furious when she left the stage.
Taking to Twitter.com, she wrote, ‘‘I was supposed to sing actin (sic) like that with JLo at summer bash today but some idiot handed me a microphone that wasn’t even turned on.’’
Despite the incident, Azalea admitted she felt honoured to perform with a superstar like Lopez.
‘‘Watching this woman do her thing tonight was beyond impressive. We had some technical difficulties when it was time for our song but hey, I still enjoyed the opportunity to stand on stage next to someone I’ve admired for a long time. jlo you’re the most down to earth diva there is, always smiling & a true class act. wishing you so much luck for your album release!’’ she added.

Robert Pattinson no plan for Indiana Jones
Actor Robert Pattinson has denied reports he’s set to follow in Harrison Ford’s footsteps and take over his two most iconic roles.
Industry rumours suggested the Twilight hunk was the favourite to play Indiana Jones in a new reboot and tackle the part of Star Wars’ Han Solo in a franchise spin-off project.
However, the Brit admits he has been left baffled by the claims, as he has no plans to be Hollywood’s Ford replacement.
‘‘I don’t know why. Why is that coming out? I honestly don’t understand what it’s all about. Man, I wish!,’’ he tells People.com.
‘‘I didn’t even know there was a Han Solo spin-off coming out. Sounds like a cool spin-off. I’ll watch it.’’
The real Ford is currently recovering after breaking his ankle on the set of the new Stars Wars: Episode VII movie in England this week.
