Josh MacDonald fires for Albion Park before England gig

Former Sydney FC attacker Josh MacDonald was a rare addition on the scoresheet in Albion Park's 3-0 triumph over South Coast United on Saturday.

MacDonald has joined the Illawarra Premier League club for a short stint ahead of a trip to England to further his blossoming career.

He came off the bench late in Saturday's match to score the White Eagles' third and put in a 90-minute shift with the club's youth grade squad.

It is expected the 18-year-old will feature again next week when Albion Park meet Cringila Lions at Terry Reserve.

"Before I go over to England, I just want to get fit so I am just playing a few games, training there and doing stuff on my own to get back where I was so when I head over there, I am at the top of my fitness levels," MacDonald said.

"I will definitely play one more game, possibly two or three."

The 18-year-old has long held ambitions to make the move overseas and has previously had trials in England.

He played in the Sky Blues' championship winning youth squad last season before securing a release at the end of the campaign.

Previously, the Unanderra-junior has played with the Australian under-16 "Joeys" team and was selected for a Young Socceroos training camp in February.

A move overseas would put him in a strong position to earn a spot on the Young Socceroos squad for October's AFC under-19 championship, which doubles as a qualifier for the 2015 Under-20 World Cup.
