Two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man were arrested after police searched homes in Austinmer, Bellambi and Avalon on Wednesday morning.
On May 31, five vandals executed a ‘blitzkrieg’ plan, covering a CityRail train in graffiti after placing a milk crate and piece of timber on the tracks to prevent the train from moving.
The Bellambi man, 18, was charged with destroy property in company, two counts of destroy property, two counts of face blackened-disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, possess article with intent to damage property, obstruct rolling stock, enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, being convicted offender armed with intent to commit indictable offence, goods in custody and two transport offences.
The Austinmer man, 18, was charged with destroy property in company, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of possess article with intent to damage property, obstruct rolling stock, enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence and go onto running lines.
Both men were granted bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on July 22.
The Avalon man, 19, will appear before Manly Local Court on July 16. He was charged with destroy property in company, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, obstruct rolling stock and go onto restricted area.
Superintendent Bernie Ryan from the Police Transport Command said investigations are ongoing to find two other suspects.
“I want to be very clear to the people of the Illawarra that the Police Transport Command is working very closely with Sydney Trains and NSW Trains to make the transport system in the Illawarra as safe as possible,” Supt Ryan said.
“I promise we will catch these guys.”
