The best of the best of the Red Point Artists will be on display at an exhibition in Port Kembla.
It will be the first major exhibition held by the group for three years, with an independent curatorial panel set to decide what will be on show.
“A few years ago when TAFE funding was cut we focused on employing some of the art teachers from TAFE and getting them to run art classes,” Red Point Artists secretary Wynne Gibson said.
“Now that our classes have settled down a bit we want to get back to what we used to do in exhibiting the works of our members.”
All of Red Point’s 100 members, which include artists, sculptors, potters, photographers, jewellery and accessory designers, ceramicists and mosaic artists, have been invited to submit works, but not all are guaranteed a start.
“We want this to be the best of the best of what our members have to offer, which is why we have the independent panel to decide on which works will make it in,” Ms Gibson said.
“So far we’ve got 40 submissions, but I think we’ll end up with somewhere closer to 80.’’
Ms Gibson said the show would encourage members to look closely at each other’s work, to share techniques they’ve developed, and to be challenged in their art.
The exhibition is at the Red Point Gallery, 100 Wentworth Street, Port Kembla, and will open on Saturday, June 28, at 2pm. It will be open daily from 10am-4pm until July 12.
