Co-managers Katie Collings and Trent Elliott are hoping The Garden will attract people from all walks of life and musical tastes.
‘‘We have three different entertainment areas within the club, which we hope will bring a very broad demographic of patrons through the door,’’ Katie said.
‘‘We want to create a relaxed but vibrant venue where people can come and enjoy themselves, even during the week, whether they feel like having a quiet drink, or want to dance all night.’’
‘‘We have a cocktail bar with heaps of lounges to relax or talk, an outside garden area, and of course the dance floor upstairs.’’
Trent is the club’s music director and said they would be playing music that would appeal to everyone. ‘‘We want people to enjoy themselves, regardless of their age or taste in music’’, Trent said. ‘‘We will be playing mostly party music, like house and electronic, and we have Sydney DJs Starfocus coming down to open for us on Thursday.’’
The Victoria Street venue has been the home of various nightclubs over the years, including Castro’s and Industry. However, due to the lack of support from the public, owners Wollongong Nightlife (WNL) wanted to take the club in a totally new direction.
‘‘Katie pitched the idea for The Garden, and we were very impressed. Her and Trent’s enthusiasm since we gave the green light to go ahead, has been fantastic’’, said a spokesperson for WNL.
‘‘Even with work still going on, and stuff everywhere, you can already tell it’s going to be a great atmosphere.’’
The Garden opens Thursday at 9pm, and admission is free.
