Warilla are well-placed to claim a second Zone 16 open championship for 2014 with three teams into the quarter-finals of the Illawarra Triples at Albion Park Bowling Club.
Senior singles champion Geoff McGillivray, along with reigning Illawarra fours champion Jeremy Henry, plus Rob Tynan skipped their Warilla teams into the triples quarter-finals after four rounds last weekend.
McGillivray and partners will have to wait for their opponent; NSW under-18s rep Dylan Skinner skipping a Wiseman Park team against Dapto Citizens' Scott Bateup in round three.
The winner of Skinner versus Bateup has to take on Woonona's Anthony O'Neill for the right to face McGillivray and partners Erin Smith and Aaron Spears (lead) in the quarter-finals.
The other quarter-finals to be played on Saturday, July 12, at headquarters Albion Park BC was settled.
Dapto's Rod Taylor takes on Tynan with Brett Pieper to skip his Figtree RSL side against Zoran Bosev (Dapto Citizens).
Pieper is having a great few weeks; he won his second straight Illawarra Singles Championship to become the first back-to-back Zone 16 singles winner in almost 30 years.
Pieper beat former Australian representative Shane Garvey in the singles semi-finals and his Figtree RSL team also had a win over Garvey's Wiseman Park side 24-19 in round four of the Illawarra triples.
They now take on the Dapto team skipped by Dean Aitken in their quarter-finals clash.
The winner of Henry-Aitken clash takes on the winner of Pieper v Bosev in the triples semi-finals.
With the Illawarra rep team playing in an inter-zone series this weekend in Newcastle, the Zone 16 triples quarter-finals were held over until Saturday, July 12.
The semi-finals and final are also at Albion Park BC on Sunday, July 13.
