In May and June this year, RMS closed Mount Ousley Road from the Gipps Road overbridge to Bulli Tops on three Saturday nights to carry out road maintenance.
The closures took place between 7pm and 5am and allowed crews to install new road signage, carry out resurfacing and drain maintenance, repair guard rails and cut back vegetation all at the same time.
An RMS spokesman said the total closure allowed crews to finish the work sooner and at less inconvenience to motorists.
"If work was carried out while the road was open, it would have taken RMS months to complete the job," the spokesman said.
As well as time, the spokesman said the trio of closures also saved RMS more than half a million dollars.
