He began with one of the signature songs from The Phantom of the Opera and Mr Nozza is now following in the steps of a musical hero who was once involved in the same theatre company that is now putting on Phantom.
When he was introduced by Neryl East she said the Australian productions had a strong Wollongong connection.
"Many would remember that the original Australian production featured Wollongong's Anthony Warlow as the Phantom," Ms East said.
"What's less well known is that Anthony cut his musical theatre teeth as a member of Wollongong's Arcadians Theatre Group. Arcadians ... are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year by bringing The Phantom of the Opera to Wollongong."
Kyle Nozza plays the title role.
Phantom is at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre, August 15 to 24, and tickets are available at IPAC box office and online at www.ipac.org.au.
