Tourism and Hospitality students in Nowra are about to rub shoulders with the My Kitchen Rules judge when he is guest chef and student mentor at the 12th annual TAFE Illawarra Celebrity Chef Scholarship Dinner at the Nowra Campus of TAFE on August 19.
Mr Fassnidge has created a menu for an eight-course degustation, to be prepared, cooked and served by student teams at Destiny's Training Restaurant. The 130 guests include celebrity chefs who have taken part in previous dinners.
For the Commercial Cookery students, it is a chance to work alongside one of the best, who is passionate about sourcing local produce and using slow-cooking methods.
They will also benefit from the knowledge of Nowra's own celebrity chef, Matt Fleming, who was formally involved in The Establishment, Sydney.
Mr Fassnidge said it was exciting to have the chance to encourage the Shoalhaven students, who did not always have access to Sydney's restaurant culture.
The Irish-born chef runs The Four in Hand and 4Fourteen restaurants in Sydney.
The annual dinner traditionally sells out and this year it will have added meaning as its founder and Nowra Campus Tourism and Hospitality head teacher Di Laver is about to retire after 40 years.
