Warilla's Julea Morgan edged out Sue Wood 25-23 in a see-sawing final of the Illawarra District Women's Major Singles at Berkeley Sports Bowling Club.
Morgan led 11-2 and 19-13 before Wiseman Park's Wood stormed back to tie the match at 20-20.
The windy conditions made it tough to read the green but Wood made an excellent adjustment following a slow start.
But having given up the momentum in the contest, Morgan was defiant, finding her precise draw game again and holding on for a 25-23 win in a match worthy of a final.
Morgan will represent Illawarra in the regional playoff.
She will meet Southern Highlands' Jocilin Hayman at Windang Bowling Club on August 19.
The winner advances to the state championships at Tuncurry from October 25 to November 1.
For the ultra-consistent Wood it was the second straight year she had reached the District Major Singles final and been pipped by a Warilla player.
Twelve months ago Norma Taylor played an excellent District Major Singles final to win the crown.
