Pillar looks to boost staff in Wollongong

Pillar Administration is looking for up to 40 skilled workers to fill a range of newly created information, communication and technology roles in Wollongong.

The superannuation administrator is planning to advertise for as many as 20 professionals this weekend and the final number could be much higher than 40.

It is part of a major initiative called the ICT Integration Project.

Pillar Corporate Services' executive general manager, Fatima Abbas, said positions would be both permanent and long fixed-term roles based in the Illawarra.

She said it was business as usual at Coniston where more space was sought.

"We are here and we are planning for a long-term future," Ms Abbas said.

Pillar already employs 730 people at Coniston.

Ms Abbas said it was acquiring another floor in a building it now occupies to help house its growing workforce.

Pillar has more than $96 billion under administration in more than 1.13 million accounts.

"These [new] positions have been created to deliver the second phase of Pillar's systems integration project; a major change initiative that will modernise and rationalise Pillar's registry and administration systems into a single platform," Ms Abbas said.

"The project will bring data from multiple systems together into a single registry platform."

The project follows the Commonwealth's reforms requiring superannuation funds to update systems and reporting procedures.

"The reforms will actually take place over a number of years. With the system integration process we are looking at least at 2½ to three years so there is long-term opportunity here for people to work."

New positions at Coniston include software developers, project managers, business analysts, data migration specialists and change management experts.

Ms Abbas said it was possible that during the course of ICT integration, the number of jobs in Wollongong could further expand.

"These new jobs are primarily IT and project-related but we have a very good call centre here and we are always in the market for more contact centre staff," she said.
