Illawarra has again showed off its depth of junior talent by winning the Junior Inter-Zone 7-A-Side tournament at Figtree RSL Bowling Club.
Illawarra nominated two teams in Singles, Pairs and Fours in the two-day event featuring 15 of the 16 zones in NSW bowls.
The host zone won the Fours with Madeline Goncalves, Jayden Tzortzis, Kayleigh Darlington and skip Danyon Christie winning five matches, including a semi-final and final.
Illawarra's Fours triumph, plus Dawn Hayman's runners-up effort in Singles and a bronze medal by Jarrod Beckford and Dylan Skinner in the Pairs, earned Illawarra the overall gold medal.
Sydney South West (Zone 12) finished runners-up.
With Christie as skip, the leading Illawarra Fours team won their three sectional games against zones 9, 13 and 1 to reach the semi-finals.
Illawarra then beat Zone 5, 14-11 before taking the gold medal with an 18-11 victory over Zone 4 in the final.
The other Zone 16 Fours team of Courtney Sopher, Chloe Koziol, Perry Avnell and Caitlin West won one of their three sectional games.
Hayman made the singles final, beaten by her NSW under-18s teammate Ellen Ryan (Zone 12) 25-19.
Jordan Taylor was Illawarra's second singles representative and was victorious in one of his three sectional games.
In the pairs, Illawarra's Beckford and Skinner were beaten in the semi-finals and finished with the bronze medal.
Zone 10's Mark Harkins and Sam Hatch-Caccamo won gold, while the second Illawarra pairs team of Rylee Lawrence and Kate Davies won one of their three pool games.
The 7-A-Side was also a selection trial for the Junior City and Country sides and the NSW under-18s team.
The tournament was run by Bowls NSW with the backing of Figtree RSL.
