Strong breezes hit the Illawarra on Tuesday night, with gusts reaching up to 87km/h in Kiama and 85km/h in Albion Park just after midnight.
The region’s northern suburbs copped the worst of the wild weather on Wednesday morning, receiving gusts of 82km/h around 10am.
The Bureau of Meteorology reaffirmed a severe weather warning for gales and heavy surf for the Illawarra and South Coast.
The warning has also been issued for Thursday.
Residents are advised to keep their brollies handy for the rest of the week as showers are expected.
