The UOW pool will transform into a temporary water park from 4.30pm on Tuesday for the annual Orientation Week events.
Last year 800 students filled the pool and UOW is looking to break the record with this year's festivities by including laser tag on the tennis courts.
During the day more than 50 clubs and society stalls will join performers around the duck pond lawn showcasing services available to students.
At night, a pop-up outdoor cinema featuring free popcorn and lolly bars will premiere on Wednesday with O-Week culminating at Thursday night's Uni Bar GLO party with Dappled Cities headlining the night.
While most events are alcohol free, accommodation providers such as Campus East are offering traditional student debauchery in the form of dress-up parties and pub crawls.
Third year sociology student Emily Tolhurst said O-Week was the best chance for newcomers to find their feet at university.
"People move here from all over the country and internationally so it's a great way to meet new people on campus," she said. Her advice to first year students was to get involved in as many ways as possible.
"It's so important to get out there and come out of your shell," she said
"You shouldn't care what other people think, this is what uni life is all about - making new friends."
