Albion Park hairdresser Emily Caunt was recently crowned Miss Sydney Australia’s Best Hairstylist of 2015 after “wowing” judges by successfully performing three completely different styles in under 40 minutes.
“We had to match the hairstyle with each of the models, their face and their dress and I hadn’t seen any of the girls before or what they were wearing,” Miss Caunt said.
The hairdressing competition is held moments before a group of aspiring models hit the catwalk for the annual Miss Sydney Australia competition.
“I am surprised at how well I did,” she said.
“We were meant to do two girls in one hour but one hairdresser didn’t show up so I did three in 40 minutes.
“They all had long hair and extensions and we had to put their hair up. So I either curled it or did braids to match to their face.
“The fact that I did three in 40 really surprised them (the judges) and all three girls had different hairstyle with lots of texture and detail.”
It was Miss Caunts first ever hairdressing contest and she said competition was tough.
“It was really hard. You couldn’t pick the winner,” she said.
“I knew my girls had different styles but when you look at your own work you don’t think it’s as good as all the others. I was really shocked and I didn’t expect to win.”
