In May, Peter and Nic Curkoski and Geoff Olsen and Mel Anderson will tackle the WildEndurance event in which teams race along bush tracks on 50 or 100-kilometre courses.
Last year both couples competed together as the Spider Pigs - it's a Simpsons reference - but this year there's been a split with Peter and Geoff forming one team to race against their partners.
But Geoff said he took some convincing after finding last year's event "challenging".
"Nic and Mel thought they would do it again and Pete and I said 'No, we're not doing it'," Geoff said.
"The girls started training and Pete rang up and said 'What do you reckon? We're going to be having a few walks with them anyway'. I said, if we do it, I'm never doing it again. And that's how we came up with our team name Never Again."
And he thinks the Spider Pigs may be working on a secret weapon. "We're not trying to keep too many secrets but Pete and I spruiked off fairly early that we were going to smash them, so I've got a feeling the girls are going to be putting in a big effort to be honest with you," Geoff said.
"We still train together when we can. I've got a suspicion my missus may have been doing some behind-the-scenes work on nutrition and food that I don't know about."
Geoff said both teams were competing for bragging rights at home but at this stage there had been no crazy bets placed on the outcome - or any serious sledging around the house.
"There has been a little bit, not much because we've got to live with each other so you've got be careful," Geoff said.
