The nine state awards they have won for their hard work is proof that the ladies from Port Kembla Hospital Auxiliary don't mind working long hours to assist the hospital and its patients.
The dedicated volunteers also enjoy celebrating their successes and will take it up a notch on Thursday when they hold a special luncheon to acknowledge the auxiliary's 50th anniversary.
About 100 people, including past and present members will attend the April 23 party at Port Kembla Golf Club.
Publicity officer and long-time member Annette Henson said auxiliary members from Wollongong, Kiama and Bulli hospitals had also been invited to attend the luncheon.
"It should be a great day. We are really looking forward to getting together and celebrating this important milestone," she said.
Mrs Henson said Port Kembla Hospital Auxiliary had nine members when it was established in 1965.
The group rose in numbers over the years to a peak of 37 members but nowadays 11 dedicated volunteers meet on the first Thursday of the month at the hospital to work on projects to raise money for medical equipment.
"Over the years we have bought a lot for the hospital, including two tilting reclining wheelchairs, two cardiac treadmills, as well as several beds and lockers," Mrs Henson said.
Auxiliary members Sylvia Green and Marion Bruce were made state life members by United Hospitals Association (UHA), NSW's governing body for auxiliaries.
The Port Kembla group itself has won nine awards for the most hours worked for a small country auxiliary.
