More than 400 people gathered at Dapto Leagues Club to hear Luke Byrne, of Shellharbour City Dental, named business person of the year and McGrath Kiama and Berry as business of the year.
Dr Byrne said Shellharbour City Dental entered the Best Health Improvement Service Award category last year and was delighted to win that.
To follow that up by receiving the Business Person of the Year Award was an absolute honour.
"I'm so grateful to our patients and staff for helping us make our business such a success," he said.
"We built the practice three years ago in line with the redevelopment of the Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre and opened the doors mid year 2012. We really have tried very hard from the start to build our business and create a practice we can be proud of and most importantly one our patients feel comfortable and confident attending. Many of our patients have made comment of what a positive experience they have had with us and our fantastic staff. We have had a great response from the Shellharbour community and have seen fantastic growth of our patient base over the last three years.
"We have added two further treatment rooms from when we started out and our staff has grown from just my wife and I with one dental assistant when we first set up to our current staff of ten with three clinicians and seven dental assistants. Our main goal is to continue providing top quality dental services in a relaxed, comfortable and friendly environment. Our patients are what keep our practice alive and we just hope to exceed our customers' expectations of what a visit to the dentist can be. I think we have cultured a very happy and supportive environment for both our patients and staff. It is very important to us that we maintain this as happy staff give our patients an enjoyable experience."
South Coast Local Business Award business of the year McGrath Estate Agents Kiama and Berry is a firm on the move.
McGrath office manager Angela Bennett said the real estate agency was one business with two offices.
Its two principals Marnie Beauchamp and Mira Edwards were encouraged to line up again after entering the awards in 2014 and winning its category for most outstanding real estate agency.
"So we have won that award two years in a row now," Ms Beauchamp said.
"And we were absolutely honoured to win the Business of the Year Award. This award is a direct result of us having a supportive and customer-focused team who always provide exceptional service and we pride ourselves on the testimonials we receive from our clients after we achieve outstanding results for them. My team and I were ecstatic to win both these awards as it proved to us that what we do and why we do it is worth every minute."
The business, established by Ms Beauchamp in 2000, became a McGrath franchise in 2012.
It now has 15 people spread across the two offices in Kiama and Berry.
"Mira Edwards joined the company in 2014 with the establishment of our Berry office.
"Our business is growing strongly and we opened our Berry office in September 2014 to allow us to better service the Berry and South Coast region and enable us to extend the McGrath service and exceptional customer experience to the rural and lifestyle properties.
"I believe that we were recognised due to the commitment and focus on our clients. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, integrity, presentation, overall customer experience and our passion in achieving the absolute best result for our clients.
"We are continually growing and evolving our business with emphasis on training and staff recruitment. We would like to continue to grow our market share and the McGrath brand in the Kiama, Berry and South Coast regions."
Ms Beauchamp said she was "forever grateful" to the clients and colleagues who had supported the business over the years and recommended it to their family, friends and business acquaintances.
"Most of all we want to thank our team who strive for perfection every day and who maintain our high standards and integrity. Their ethics match our own and we know that they are a true representation of our brand.
"We are appreciative and thankful to the Illawarra business awards organisers and all of the major sponsors."
Managing director Steve Loe said the local business awards recognised the role business people play in improving the lives of local communities.
