Renowned Illawarra violinist Sarah Moir is celebrating with her family after winning three national music awards.
Moir is well known as soloist entertainer and was a member of the internationally acclaimed String Angels.
But she has performed with her whole family.
The last time in Wollongong was at a bon-voyage concert at Centro CBD in October, 2014.
She did that to thank and farewell all her supporters before taking the family to travel and perform on the high seas.
Moir has been travelling the world as an entertainer on cruise ships.
But during a recent visit home her husband Joel and children Heath, 13, and Ashleigh, 11, joined her for a trip to Cooma for the National Busking Championships.
They competed under the name of “The String Family” and were recognised as Australia's National Busking Champion. They also won the Best Band and the Best Family Group awards.
Every member of the Moir family is an accomplished musician.
Moir has most recently been performing on the Mariner of The Seas.
She is widely regarded as one of Wollongong’s great musical talents who has enjoyed a great career on her own and with the String Angels.
But she said the latest recognition had special meaning.
“Although I've been fortunate to pick up a few nice awards in my solo career, it was wonderful to share the stage with the whole family and achieve such a great result,” she said.
“The festival was a great success and was of a high standard standard with competitors from all over Australia.”
Ashleigh said it was great to have a chance to play together and it was a wonderful surprise to win Australia's National Busking Champion Award.
The whole family felt proud to bring a national award home of Wollongong.
Moir said the city had a great musical pedigree and every member of her family were supporting Cyrus Villanueva in X-Factor and wanting him to win the grand final next week.
