NSW Ambulance Illawarra district officer Inspector Terry Morrow said the woman was kneeling down to either give her dog a bone or pick up a bone, when it launched upwards and latched onto her face.
“It’s jumped up and torn her lip open. She was taken to St George hospital by ambulance,” said Inspector Morrow.
The victim, who had only just moved to the area, was going to see a local doctor then realised the extent of her injuries so presented to the local ambulance station. No ambulances were available so one from Thirroul responded, identifying an urgent need for surgery.
