The event kicked off with a sausage sizzle and information night at the Quarantine Bay clubhouse last Friday March 4, with more than 130 people attending. The competition officially launched at 6am the following morning.
EAFC president Bob Wilcox said rough seas had hampered the event over the opening weekend, but big catches were already secured.
“We’ve had a few big fish come in, like a big morwong weighing over three kilograms, and a nice whiting weighing 0.7 kilograms,” Mr Wilcox said on Monday March 7.
“And on Sunday March 6 there was a big 108 kilogram marlin brought in.”
Mr Wilcox was delighted with the response to the competition’s new under 6s division, with 25 youngsters vying for seven species across five categories.
First prize in each children’s category is a rod and reel combination kit.
