The crowd at Wellington cheered wildly as Ryan brought the two year old into the enclosure.
‘’It was a sensational win. This horse has done a lot wrong and his trainer Pat Farrell said don’t worry about all his injury problems he will win the Boot and he did.’’
Greg Ryan who claimed his 3rd Wellington Boot all of which have been trained by Pat Farrell said the favourite Spright and early race leader Vixen Lass gave him the perfect run.
‘’I just sat quietly behind them and they carted me through and he the horse accelerated in the straight.’’ He said.
Mr Farrell who has been very ill and recently had a very bad health scare would be feeling much better one of his owners Steve Watts said.
‘’Pat was confident about the horse and we are very excited about winning this wonderful race and despite the fact he can’t be here, he will be watching at home. This is the perfect tonic for one of the great names of bush racing.’’
‘’Pat is a great fellow and is passionate about country racing and we have now set her for the bigger races in Sydney and in the longer term we think she can stay and we might have a tilt at the Queensland Oaks.
The Alliterate ($7) easily downed favourite Spright ($3) and Sugarparma was third.
The $100,000 Wellington Boot was combined with the NSW Country Championship qualifier in 2016 and it attracted what is estimated to be about 7,500 people up 1,500 from last year.
Mudgee galloper Pera Pera dominated the NSW Country Championship with a run away win over iron Blue and Heza Thief.
