The Lions Club of Kiama are planning to restore the currently unoccupied cottage as a respite house for carers.
In February, Kiama councillors resolved to support in principle the refurbishment/renovation of the council-owned building at 105 Shoalhaven Street, Kiama by the Lions Club.
They also resolved to commence the gateway process to permit the proposal, and enter into a peppercorn lease agreement with the Lions Club for ten years subject to the relevant approvals.
The proposal will need to be part of a gateway proposal to amend zoning provisions.
Kiama Lions would be responsible for the major costs of refurbishment of the unoccupied council property.
Kiama Lions will be seeking funding from Lions International in addition to using some of their own funds.
The club recently began their fundraising efforts, and an anonymous donor has given them a baby grand piano to sell.
According to the club, the Kawai Baby Grand model KG 2A is in excellent condition and has been tuned.
It is hoped it will to raise up to $5000.
Kiama council have allowed the Lions Club to display their piano in the front window of the currently vacant former Mitre 10 site in Terralong Street.
